Southbank Centre's vocal initiative, Voicelab, is looking for performers to join Surrounded By Strangers, a unique vocal performance for Chorus festival, 1-2 July 2017.
Surrounded By Strangers asks both performers and audiences how it feels to be surrounded by strangers, addressing themes of loneliness and alienation in this increasingly busy, hyper-connected world.
Looking into these issues that plague modern society, Norwegian composer Eyvind Gulbradsen has developed Surrounded By Strangers in collaboration with Kammerkór Suðurlands (South Iceland Chamber Choir) and their Musical Director, Hilmar Örn Agnarsson.
Voicelab is looking for people in London to collaborate with existing artists and performers to create a new iteration of Surrounded By Strangers.
We are looking for 28 individuals to join the project who are:
- Confident singing and speaking in front of people
- Open-minded, positive and free-thinking
- Able to self-reflect and tell their story
- Have some experience of performing
- Enjoy collaborating with artists and people of different backgrounds and experiences
- Aged 18+
We would like to hear from people who speak a range of languages, and we will aim to achieve representation of the diversity of London with performers of all ages, backgrounds, ethnicity and genders. Please note, the piece will be developed through workshops, and music sight-reading skills are not necessary. It is free to take part in this project.
Interested applicants should fill in and submit this form by 6pm on Monday 8 May.
